ARTFIELDS: Table for Two
Only registered participants in attendance are eligible to vote. Hope to see you there!
For the second year in a row, Mark’s work will be exhibited in the upcoming ARTFIELDS Exhibition held in Lake City, SC. This juried exhibition held in the small town of Lake City has one of the most generous award budgets in the Southeast. First prize is $50,000! Well-supported by talented professional artists is another big plus. However, the most interesting factor for me is how ARTFIELDS installs the artwork around the town. While there are several large, well-lit venues for art, much of the work is found (scavenger hunt-like) all over town; ‘a living art gallery.’ Last year’s winning piece was hung in the local barber shop. The excitement and involvement of the town is contagious. This is challenging art and the people of Lake City rise to that challenge. It is also a great boon for business, but that’s someone else’s priority. I love this democratic approach to the visual arts and highly recommend this week-long experience to all art lovers.
From the ARTFIELDS website:
ArtFields® started in 2013 with a simple goal: honor the artists of the Southeast with a week’s worth of celebration and competition in the heart of a traditional Southern small town. With over $100,000 up for grabs, awarded based on the input of every visitor to ArtFields and a panel of judges made up of acclaimed artists and educators, the competition offers life-changing amounts of money to all artists in all media who live in the twelve Southeastern states. Over 400 masterpieces will be displayed in locally-owned venues, from renovated warehouses from the 1920’s to Smithsonian-qualified art galleries to upscale restaurants and start-up boutiques, in a mutual celebration of art and community. What was once one of South Carolina’s most prosperous agricultural communities now becomes a living art gallery as we continue to demonstrate the best of the Southeast and recognize the incredible talent we have to offer.
