2 New Paintings by Mark Flowers
Two new works were finished from my end of the studio this week. My teaching/staff job is finding a better rhythm this year allowing me to work in the studio on a more regular basis.
“In the River” is a work that was reconstructed using parts from an older painting. It has an image of Uncle Jesse that is one of my favorites. The river has factored into my work over the years. We live near the French Broad River and it carries a strong meaning of constant change and perpetual motion for me. If you are familiar with Kristy’s latest documentary, The Other Brother, Jesse is the uncle I never knew when he was alive, but I feel like I know him well now because of his letters and artwork that flowed through the film. Constant change.
“Airport Seduction” is another painting about my fascination with airports and how humanity crosses paths from all parts unknown and then scatters again.
